It might be time
“It Might Be Time” by Nyia Dykes
The world feels heavier these days. The opportunities that once seemed like guarantees, taken for granted by previous generations, feel out of reach for so many. The stressors facing individuals, couples, and families are a lot to say the least. And while all of the stressors continue to mount, we are still expected to show up, keep going, and take care of ourselves. A nice long bath, a yap session with some friends, and a long hug from a partner are all excellent ways to destress, but what yif we need more to destress and recharge?
Now is the time to reach out for support. If you’ve found yourself feeling like you’re only getting sips of reprieve, it's okay to acknowledge you need more, and it's likely time to seek the support of a trusted mental health professional. You deserve more than just a sip. You and your loved ones deserve to experience you in your complete fullness. You deserve time to unpack, redesign, and remake. Therapy can be a huge first step, whether or not you’re ready to begin that work with someone else, I want to offer just a few options, just in case you are looking to do more individually.
Box Breathing
The great folks over at CHI Health have a box breathing exercise that you can try when you need to come back into the present. It’s quick (less than 3 minutes!) and can be used whenever you need it.
Dance Break
UCLA Health released a research write-up detailing the benefits of dancing. They found that “conscious dance, which encourages self-discovery through unchoreographed movement, produced mental health benefits among the vast majority of participants with depression, anxiety or history of trauma.” This means you can feel good about putting on your headphones and dancing around your house or even in your car during your commute (SAFETY FIRST).
Self Hand Massage
This beautiful guided self hand massage video by LuChin from QiYoga with LuChin is so relaxing and gentle. This video might also be helpful if you are experiencing inflammation in your hands.
So, what if you’ve box breathed and dance breaked and massaged all you can and it’s still not enough? It might be time to try therapy. You don’t have to heal yourself by yourself! We here at Fables are ready to help. All you need to do is reach out.
If you try any of these offerings, let us know how it went, and if you know of other techniques, feel free to share them! We’re all ears!
